InterGlobe Technologies breaks new ground in IT services – Achieves CMMi Level 5 certification – the highest standard in Quality delivery

Achievement of CMMi Level 5 certification: Successful compliance to the most stringent international model in Quality

15th November 2005, New Delhi - InterGlobe Technologies [IGT], India’s leading travel technology solutions provider, backed by four decades of travel domain expertise; has taken a giant leap forward in the Travel Technology niche by becoming one of the only few companies to achieve CMMi Level 5 certification. The certification is a significant milestone for IGT, reaffirming its total commitment to customer success by enhancing collective performance at an organizational level.

This certification makes IGT one of the first Indian travel technology company to include integrated product and process development as part of the CMMi criteria, further raising the standards by which all other Software Services organizations in this domain are governed.

The CMMi quality certification is considered more elaborate and rigorous than CMM. For example, CMMi has 22 process areas compared to 18 of CMM and 425 practices as compared to 316 in CMM. Achieving Level 5 of CMMi acknowledges IGT’s ability to offer the highest possible value to customers by providing better requirement specification, more powerful design evaluation, and enhanced quantitative project management techniques.

Speaking on this development, Mr.Vipul Doshi, CEO, InterGlobe Technologies said, " The CMMi Level 5 certification underscores the capability IGT has displayed in delivering critical projects across demanding travel-specific expertise areas like Mainframe TPF, Travel eCommerce, GDS and Fares. Our thrust has always been on expanding our client relationships by focusing on strengthening our project management and delivery processes, backed by a strong domain understanding and focused technology skill sets."

Demonstrating its commitment to high quality solutions to clients consistently, IGT's CMMi Level 5 reiterates its ability in architecting end-to-end, process-driven business solutions that imbibe superior knowledge of complex information systems and domain expertise.

Commenting on IGT's achievement, Mr. G.P. Rastogi, Associate Director of KPMG and Authorized SEI Lead Appraiser for InterGlobe Technologies, said, “Achievement of CMMi Level 5 by IGT is a culmination of years of a process improvement journey undertaken by the organization. The CMMi processes are very well institutionalized across all the hierarchies in the organization and have been a strong factor in making IGT, one of the leading companies for providing integrated and cutting edge solutions for the travel industry. Amongst its Global Strengths are IGT’s collaborative approach that ensures delivery by combining best of in-house Developed Methodologies and Client Processes.”

Beyond this, to meet with the growing demands from the industry, IGT has a robust expansion strategy in place. Planned in a phased manner, this would entail substantial investments in infrastructure and manpower. The employee base of 700+ is set to grow to more than three times its current size in the next two years.

For your understanding

What is meant by CMM Capability Maturity Model)?

CMM (Capability Maturity Model) is a framework that describes the key elements of an effective software process. The CMM describes an evolutionary improvement path from an ad hoc, immature process to a mature, disciplined process. The CMM covers practices for planning, engineering, and managing software development and maintenance. When followed, these key practices improve the ability of organizations to meet goals for cost, schedule, functionality, and product quality. The CMM establishes a yardstick against which it is possible to judge, in a repeatable way, the maturity of an organization's software process and compare it to the state of the practice of the industry

Adding ‘I’ to CMM
i.e. CMM-I (Capability Maturity Model – Integrated)

Now, CMM is not just for software any more. CMM-I openly integrates the software engineering and management practices with systems engineering, and describes "integrated product development teams" as one teaming/management technique.
